Games and Graduations

Thursday, December 18th, 2003

I’ve been kinda slack about posting lately, since I’ve been spending all my time playing games.
I decided a couple of weeks ago, that since after 6 months of avoiding games due to the problems I’m having with my wrists, they hadn’t really improved (or got worse either for that matter), that I might as well see if I could manage a game or two…even if only for a little while. So I got out Summoner 2 – a game I got for Christmas last year, but never got round to playing.
It turns out that as long as I don’t use the big XBox controller, I’m more or less fine for a few hours of gameplay at a time, so a PS2 game like Summoner 2 is fine.
We also bought D&D Heroes for XBox and so my time has been pretty evenly divided between playing Summoner 2 when I’m on my own, and Heroes when Tessa’s around. many late nights as a result ;).

Went to Tessa’s graduation today, for her Honours year….it was a fairly good day – Tessa’s parents came up for the graduation, so we spent the morning sitting around talking, then went to the graduation, which was ok (No doctorates to sit through this year) and the food was good. heh. Then we had a coffee or two in Civic before depositing them back at the Airport.

Then finished off the day with Summoner and Heros.
Work tomorrow.
bah.

Within Temptation

I _need_ some of their music.
I discovered them on a web site dedicated to women in metal, while browsing around at Nightwish links.
They’re not as operatic as Nightwish, and tend towards more traditional metal or hard rock, but with folky tendancies.
Sharon, the lead vocalist has a voice that rather reminds me of Kate Bush, so I guess it shouldn’t be a suprise that they’ve covered the Kate Bush song “Running up that Hill”. Their version is so good, that after hearing it, It kind of infected me…and Tessa too, neither of us could get it out of our heads for days, so as I can’t get a hold of any Within Temptation albums here, I had to go and get the Kate Bush album it originaly appeared on to appease the beast, as it were.

Catching Up

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2003

It’s been a while since I’ve updated…I’ve had a busy month, and it’s not looking like easing up for a while.
I recently had the revelation that whilst everyone else I work with has been piled up with multiple jobs, I’ve been left in an island of tranquility. So I took the oportunity to really get stuck in to our main project, since I’m the only one of 4 left working on it. I think it needed that, now that we’re not all trying to fit in together, each working on our own part, updating project plans, etc, I was able to just get in and do it, and as a result I think we might now have a chance of delivering _something_ by Februrary which is what we had extremely optimistically hoped for when we started.

But unfortunately, all that work, as satisfying as it might have been, has not really allowed me time to work on music, or the site, so things have kind of stagnated for a bit. But hopefully that will change after Christmas, once everything’s settled down for a bit.

I’m vaguely considering doing a music production course, as I’m painfully aware of how weak my knowledge is in that area. It would be nice to know exactly what I need to do to get the sound that’s in my head, rather than having to go through the trial and error process, which eventually has me walking away in frustration.
CIT have a course that looks interesting, but I’m not sure if I could manage the commitment of time that would be involved. I think I’ll probably look around for some books, or online articles and courses first, and if I get no joy that way, I’ll consider it more seriously.
