Caught Up!

It’s taken me all night, but I am finally up to date in my Slush Wrangling duties!
It really is rather easy to end up with quite a daunting pile of work if you don’t deal with it as quickly as possible. But at least from now it should be a little easier, as I finally got round to adding enough functionality to my slush-taming program so as to avoid having to do manual database queries all over the place.
I’m really not sure if this is something I’d want to do again – or at least not for a three month submission period. I rather enjoy reading all the stories, and I’m glad to be performing a useful task, but I must say I’m terrified of sending emails to the authors. I’m always afraid that I’ll send the wrong response to the wrong author, or phrase the email badly or something, or even if I don’t, that sooner or later I’ll be the target of messenger shooting after a rejection.
I guess I’ll just have to stick it out for now. If I do volunteer to do it again next year, then this time I’ll just have to make sure my slush tamer is advanced enough to let it manage itself ;)
