Ok, so I decided to do one this week anyway…though due to the fact that it’s too bloody hot to spend an evening in an airless room with a computer and a bunch of audio gear shoving the temperature towards 40, it’s pretty short – about 1:30 short.
In fact, this is probably more accurately described as “two ideas kinda shoved together” than a piece of music.

I tried out the idea of using a flute ensemble this time – with four flute parts. I think it worked pretty well, though I still need to figure out the best microphone placement. I think my previous couple of pieces with flute in them managed to get more flute sound and less breath and key-click. Maybe next time I get it right, I’ll take a photo of the setup so I know how to get back to it.

For a future piece I might try doing something flute only. It’d be interesting to see if I could resist the temptation to shove in guitar and drums, and just have a nice four part flute piece. It won’t be next week, but I’ll definitely keep it in mind as an idea.
