gah…the video card in my computer (the one I bought only a couple of months ago), is apparently so crap, that it can’t even handle Neverwinter Nights – a game that’s around five years old now.

It’s got an nVidia 7100 GS in it – and I’m pretty sure the old Radeon 9000 Pro in the old computer was more powerful. (in fact, looking here seems to verify that)

From what I can tell, it’s not the use of Turbo Cache (using a small amount of memory on the board as a cache for a larger pool of system RAM) instead of real on board memory that’s the problem either – as NWN even with the largest textures will work fine on a board with 64MB of texture memory, and dropping it down to the 16MB textures doesn’t make any difference. The only way to get things consistently smooth is by dropping the resolution right down to 800×600 and turning _everything_ down. The stupid thing is just slow.

I was playing last night, and almost ordered a new card at least three times…bah
