This one is very short I’m afraid – once again I came up with a nice idea, but completely failed to develop it. However, since the spirit of this exercise is to produce something no matter how short, here it is.
It’s a quartet for cello, two flutes and clarinet – though it’s effectively just a simple melody for cello, with some backing from the winds.
I did try to develop it further – it was going to be for a small ensemble – Cello, Double Bass, Violin, Viola, and the two flutes and clarinet, however I just couldn’t come up with anything to follow this section, and rather than frustrate myself for the rest of the evening, decided to cut my losses and just release the first section.
It does have the saving grace of having real flutes and clarinet – I’m getting close to figuring out how to do a decent job of recording them. This still isn’t quite there, but it’s suitable for this piece.
