Just flicking through your pages Stuart. Mighty entertaining.

Then I see this - one of my favourite lyrics.

You have GREAT taste in music... (apart from 'Maiden... :) )

Cheers,
Jeff

No, Ubuntu and Samba do not work at all.
Samba on its own works fine, and works fine as Samba on Ubuntu when you configure it correctly.
However, Ubuntu does not provide a working Samba, or the means to make it work with a Windows host without manually editing the smb.conf. So to say that "Ubuntu and Samba" work just fine is incorrect.

ubuntu and samba work just fine, vista is the problem. its just another one of microsofts many oversights due to an obsession with making the gui aspect all flashy and stuff.

I don't really either - the only reason it's significant is that currently Telstra is the only provider capable of taking the iPhone (which is a claim that I'm taking on faith, I haven't actually researched how true it is), whereas the mythical 3G version wouldn't be technically limited to one network (though whether it was limited via business agreement would be another matter).

I think however, that I'll be giving the iPhone a miss this time round - if I hadn't seen the Viewity then I'd definitely be waiting for it, but I have, so I won't.

I actually don't think 3G is that big an issue. Most of the time I am on Wi Fi and when I am not and surfing the web (which can be slow) I use a service called Iphoneiquity (www.thesmespace.com/smeutils/iphoneiqutiy) which compresses any website and formats it for the Iphone.

goddamn, that's bloody excellent! the variety of volume and intensity of the piano makes it really atmospheric.

maybe it's a bit cliche but while I was listening to this (fairly loud) in my office at work someone went down the hallway with a trolley full of stuff, and the rumbling of the wheels reverberating off the walls/ceiling made for an interesting background to the track. Tried anything like that? eg. a sweep of perhaps some kind of strings instrument, with an really slow volume and pan sweep, kinda like the way a loud car passes a stationary listener, except not sounding like a car. Visit my office next week and I'll play an mp3 that demonstrates exactly what I mean.

I also liked how it didn't try to get too melodic or complex. Simplicity is great for this kind of "ambient" track

I can hear a Gilmour in there somewhere :-) and I agree about the clarinet/sax thing. It does sound a bit more like a black dress and stilettos than I'd normally expect from a clarinet. Don't try to fix that though, I like!
